Beautiful Wedding Quilts

Last weekend my parents stopped by to drop off our wedding present. My mom made a gorgeous gold and ivory quilt. I took pictures, but it's so much better in person. If you are ever around, remind me to show you! We might use it for a bed spread in the guest bedroom. IF you look closing, you will notice a little satin square in the middle of each block. That satin is from my Grandma HelenJean's wedding dress. She's smiling up in heaven! When Pat and I were in high school we would stop by her place. She would always tell me to scratch his back for him. I always remember slumber parties at grandma and grandpa's house when I was really little. Grandma would start scratching grandpa's back and he would say, "Ooooo...scratch a hole." I was only 5 years old when my grandpa passed away, but I remember those two having a very loving marriage. Grandma, I promise to scratch Pat's back. I know a loving marriage take a lot more that that, but it's a start. That little trip down memory lane has now left me with tears streaming down my face. Since the tears have blurred my vision from being able to see what I am typing, I am going to grab a kleenex and head to the next topic. Love you grandma and grandpa!

We also got a very cozy quilt from Grandma Vi. We've gotten a lot of use out of it already this winter. Oh yeah, it's not winter yet. It sure feels like it. Maybe I'll have to bring my sewing machine up to Upham during hunting season this year. Maybe Grandma Vi would be so kind to teach me a few things. I have so much to learn and so little time! I use to quilt fairly often with my mom. When Brock and Kathryn got married I embroidered "Just Married" on the back of a swimming suit...and since that day I haven't touch the sewing machine. Watch out Patrick...by the end of hunting season I will have "Patrick" embroidered on every single one of your shirts! Granmda Vi's quilt has marriage advice written right on it "Nurture all Your Love". Isn't that true? It also says "Princess of Quite-a-Lot". Thanks Vi, Patrick needs that reminder written out for him! : ) Just Kidding. There are things that he does a good job at and some things he does a great job at. Spoiling me is something he does an excellent job at!

We have not only gotten marriage advice from our grandmas, but also a lady celebrating her 58th wedding anniversary. We met this neat lady while serving dinner at a shelter in Bismarck. What a rewarding and humbling experience. I really enjoy this, so Patrick agreed to try it out with me. Patrick was a hit with all the little old ladies! They asked, "When are you coming back next?"
